Experience a moment of tranquility on the United Nation's International Tea Day! Chado, or the Way of Tea, is one of the most ancient and revered arts of Japan, and is at the very heart of Japan House's mission. Watch and participate in a traditional Japanese tea ceremony to learn about Japan House on the campus of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and the history of this 500 year old art form. After a brief talk about the history of Japanese tea ceremony and its connections to various Japanese arts and traditions and a virtual walking tour of Japan House's tea garden, watch as Japan House Director Jennifer Gunji-Ballsrud demonstrates a live tea ceremony. There will be a Q&A session afterward. Guests are asked to have tea and sweets ready at home to follow along and enjoy learning.
