Event Details

When Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys first performed the song "Good Vibrations" in 1966, they probably were unconcerned with the physics behind the vibrations. In this program, participants will learn how rhythmic vibrations are the basis for everything we see and hear.

We'll see how light waves and sound waves differ and experiment with wave interference. We'll use a giant slinky to show the difference between sound and light. We'll illustrate the Doppler effect using a musical note generator. Kids will make a musical read instrument, and see if they can get an aluminum rod to "sing" a loud note.
